Study Abroad: The Evolution of a Personality
In the summer of 2012 I studied abroad in Paris, France for the month of July. During this time I was able to engage with some of the locals and make friends. This afforded me the opportunity to perfect my French and step out of my comfort zone in order to enjoy new experiences. I learned how to navigate the public transportation system of Europe, a major feat for someone who grew up without exposure to any type of public transportation, and something which expanded my study abroad experience into Spain in addition to France. The experiences I had in Europe undoubtedly contributed to my transition into a more adventurous and open person. As a result, I find myself increasingly receptive to new experiences such as scuba diving and trying new foods. It is my fervent hope that such openness and flexibility will translate into a more adaptable, resilient personality in the professional world.
“Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.” ― Terry Pratchett, A Hat Full of Sky
“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” ― Augustine of Hippo
