Traveller. Music lover. Amateur photographer. Creative writer. Study abroad junkie.

I was born in raised in Alabama, but travel is my passion - give me a ticket to anywhere, and I'll pack my bags. I get a rush from exploring new places, domestically, and internationally, and I love to practice new phrases and try local foods. Photos make me smile, so if I'm out and about, I'll usually have my camera handy to document the occasion. (All photos featured here were taken by me, unless I'm in them, of course, or it's otherwise indicated.)

Most would assume that I, as a study abroad advisor, would have a canned answer to this question, and to some extent, I do. However, I've found that the longer students reflect on their experience (i.e., the longer it's been since they were abroad), the more their description of their experience changes. A routine activity abroad may later reveal itself to be an "aha!" moment or contribute to a larger life lesson.

Additionally, many students find that their family and friends cannot truly relate to the stories they tell. After all, for most people, hearing something will "change your life" is not fully comprehensible until the "something" has been experienced. So, students revert to the "It was great!" response. In the past, I was guilty of this myself. But while I am now able to verbally express my study abroad experiences in a concise way, the best way for me to convey how they changed my life is through a combination of visual and written examples. Explore the galleries below, and should you find you'd like to know more about the story behind an image, I'd be happy to chat. Feel free to also check out my blog and my personal ePortfolio.
