Milkshakes in BarcelonaThis is one of my favorite pictures of my Salamanca program. I believe this picture fully captures the close friendships made during our stay in Spain. | Nights in SalamancaDuring our bike tour, we rode across the Roman Bridge and saw the breathtaking view of the New Cathedral across the River Torres in Salamanca. To the right is the stunning bridge built to compensate for heavy traffic and the degenerating Roman Bridge. |

Sightseeing in SantanderDuring an excursion in Santander, my friends and I stumbled upon historic ruins located deep in the city. | Catedral NuevoThis closeup of the New Cathedral wall in Salamanca depicts an astronaut carved into the building's exterior. |
Unfinished BusinessMy favorite place in Spain was the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. This magnificent cathedral is not yet completed, but one must visit in order to understand why architects and construction workers have taken so long to build this piece of history. | Parque GuellThis is another place that I adored in Barcelona. Park Guell was designed by the same architect that developed the Sagrada Familia - Antoni Gaudi. |
Pastries Before ClassThis was our favorite spot in Salamanca before our classes began in the morning. We would stop by THE BEST pastry store in Spain and gaze at the beautiful cathedral right outside our classroom windows. |

Before studying abroad, I knew that I wanted to travel the world one day - to somehow make it to every corner of the world. Realistically, I knew that this was probably going to be impossible because of my goals in becoming a doctor. However, I found a way to satify my "travel bug" by applying to my study abroad program that took place in Salamanca, Spain during the summer of 2013.
My story starts in Auburn, Alabama as a student who needed something more and I found that during my travels in Spain. I met new people and even discovered a new me. Studying abroad has benefited me in so many ways, I don't think I could count each one.
Others always tell you that studying abroad is great to get away from the norm and the routine of life, but they never tell you how much you will learn from it. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to travel across the ocean and discover something outside and within myself.
I truly believe that studying abroad is so beneficial, which is why I encourage other students to take part in the opportunity. The wonder and awe of traveling to unfamiliar places can lead to an unexpected change in your world.
